        Gr 7 Up-Austen's stellar debut novel showcases the lives of the Dashwood sisters who are forced to leave the family estate at Norland Park and move to Barton Cottage-a property belonging to their distant relative, Sir John Middleton. This becomes the catalyst for a life-changing journey rooted in loyalty, romance, and heartbreak. It can be used as a mentor text with current YA novels and be paired with informational texts centering women's history and social class. A balance of head and heart are advantageous when finding your perfect match, and Marianne's all-in approach on romance, with sometimes disastrous results, set against Elinor's more guarded approach to love give two different perspectives on romance that readers can relate to.VERDICT A coming-of-age classic set in Regency England.
