Fondant Fumble
(Adobe EPUB eBook, Kindle Book, OverDrive Read)
Description
Professional football players Keogh Graham and Tyler Matthews want to open a Fairy Tale Cupcakes franchise. They’re spending the off-season in Scottsdale working in Mel’s bakery, learning about the business and how to bake show-stopping cupcakes. The popular athletes bring a boom of customers to the store as football fans flock to see the friends mixing batter and piping icing.
Everyone’s excited the athletes are pursuing their dream of owning a bakery—except for those who fear the players will ditch football for fondant and retire early from professional sports. The angry naysayers include their team owner and Keogh's sports agent, along with some very vocal fans.
When the owner of their team, the Arizona Scorpions, is found dead on the floor of their new bakery following an argument with Keogh, the pros become prime suspects. As the investigation heats up, Mel and the rest of the cupcake bakery crew must step up and prove their franchise owners are innocent before it’s game-over for the new bakers.

Cupcakes, football, murder. Melanie DeLaura, Angie Harper, and Tate Harper, all of them related by marriage and years of friendship, run Scottsdale, Arizona's successful Fairy Tale Cupcakes. Mel and Angie are gobsmacked when Tate informs them that Tyler Matthews and Keogh Graham, two football stars on the Arizona Scorpions, are buying one of their cupcake franchises because Keogh has convinced Tyler that owning a small business provides good insurance against a precarious future. So the Fairy Tale team gets to work helping the men pick out a store, providing color schemes, and giving them baking lessons. The football stars are used to dealing with haters and crazed fans, but it's not so easy to deal with the team's owner, Chad Dayton, who married his gorgeous wife, Kendall, after Keogh dumped her. At the grand opening, the obnoxious Dayton pronounces the bakery insufficiently masculine and tries to bribe Mel to end the deal in the rudest possible way. At least Coach Pete Casella is on his players' side. Arriving early at the new bakery to help out, Mel finds Dayton's body covered in scorpions. Mel has had past experience solving murders, but the detective who catches the case, who's never worked with her, is openly hostile to her and the star players. Keogh's celebrity status and an excellent defense attorney keep him out of jail for the time being, but Mel realizes she'll need to solve the case to preserve his freedom. Football lore and cupcake recipes combine for a sweet, manly treat.COPYRIGHT(2024) Kirkus Reviews, ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.

Fairy Tale Cupcakes owners Melanie (Mel) and Angie are stunned when their partner Tate informs them that Arizona Scorpions star football players, Keogh Graham and Tyler Matthews, have purchased one of their franchises as an investment, to be located near the stadium. At the bakery's grand opening, Keogh has a public argument with the Scorpion's obnoxious owner Chad Dayton. When Dayton is found dead in the bakery, covered with scorpions, Keogh quickly becomes a suspect. Mel doesn't believe he is guilty, so she investigates while she and the gang work to keep the bakery open. A second death occurs after Keogh argues with the victim, making Mel sure someone is trying to frame him. Firmly set in Scottsdale, Arizona, and framed by details of running a bakery and making cupcakes, this satisfying entry in the long-running series concludes with delicious-looking cupcake recipes.
