Bella and JT Caruso, who are brother and sister, along with FBI agent Lucy Kincaid, are working to find a missing girl as well as the people who run a large prostitution ring out of Port Arthur, Texas. Lee portrays the characters in rather similar tones, making slight adjustments in cadence and pacing to signal character shifts. Still, the tightly constructed story and well-developed characters are easy to follow and well suited to the audio format.
