Lonesome Song: Shep Harrington SmallTown Mystery Series, Book 1
(Adobe EPUB eBook, Kindle Book, OverDrive Read)
Reilly Heartwood, a famous country singer, is dead. His sister doesn't recognize the dead man's body. The local reverend has refused to permit burial. Reilly's death is ruled a suicide. And no one has bothered to investigate.
What the hell is going on here? That's what Shep Harrington, a 32-year-old divorced and disbarred lawyer, wants to know, and can't quite answer. The deeper he probes, the more he's drawn into reconstructing the final minutes of Reilly's life, the more he's compelled to confront his own past, and to ultimately learn the startling truth about his mother, Reilly, and himself.
Shep comes easily to his new role of amateur sleuth. Because of his own recent experience, he's deeply distrustful of authority, having just spent three years in prison for a white collar crime he didn't commit. Yet, in digging out the particulars of Reilly's demise, he is neither bitter nor uncaring, and the book manages adroitly to be an engaging whodunnit set in a small town.

- bioText:
Elliott Light grew up outside Washington, D.C. in McLean, Virginia before the beltway encircled the capital city, before farms were turned into housing developments, and before open fields became mega-malls.
The small town of Lyle is his creation and reflects a mixture of true life and fiction drawn from the place he grew up and the places his relatives lived.
Light attended the University of Virginia, receiving degrees in Electrical Engineering and Law. After stints as an environmental lawyer and a high tech lawyer, he's now practicing as a patent attorney.
He resides in Rockville, Maryland with his wife, Sonya, and their two felines, Sumo and Sasha. Lonesome Song is his first published novel.

- source: —The Virginian-Pilot (Bill Ruehlmann)
- content: "Lonesome Song, set in a small Virginia town, is a fast-paced read rife with surprises. It sports some engaging characters, notably wry sleuth narrator Shep Harrington, a fair-play plot, and smart dialogue. Author Elliott Light knows his turf. Harrington is a disbarred lawyer who was convicted of a crime he did not commit. Light, a lawyer, was nearly indicted for something he didn't do. Thus he comes by Harrington's skepticism honestly. And Lyle, Virginia, is modeled on Old Dominion towns Light grew up in, like McLean, which started out farms and became megamall bedroom communities for Washington, D.C., This man in this place credibly upends the authorities when he solves the murder of a country singer."

- content: "Unjustly disbarred lawyer-turned-amateur-sleuth Shep Harrington faces the demons of his past while investigating the mysterious death of a famous country singer in Elliott Light's debut, the first volume in the planned Shep Harrington SmallTown Mystery series called Lonesome Song. It's a solid mystery with a nostalgic heart."
