Eye for an Eye: A Dewey Andreas Novel
(OverDrive MP3 Audiobook, OverDrive Listen)
Description
In Ben Coes' latest, Eye for an Eye, Dewey Andreas faces the toughest odds of his life as one of China's most powerful men has decided to do whatever he must to take down Dewey—and inflicts a horrifying loss.
When Dewey uncovers the identity of a mole embedded at a high level in Israel's Mossad, it triggers a larger, more dangerous plot. The mole was the most important asset of Chinese Intelligence, and Fao Bhang, head of China's Ministry of State Security (MSS), responds to the discovery and brutal elimination of the mole, by immediately placing a kill order on the man responsible—Dewey Andreas.
Dewey is tracked to Argentina, where he is on vacation with his fiancée, Jessica Tanzer, a U.S. National Security Advisor. A top-level kill team is sent in quickly and quietly, but their attack fails to take out Dewey. The collateral damage, however, is both horrifying and deeply personal. With nothing left to lose, Andreas is determined to have his revenge. Once he learns who is probably behind the attack—and why they are after him—Dewey goes rogue, using all of his assets and skills to launch a counterattack. Andreas must now face the full weight and might of the MSS, Chinese Intelligence, and the formidable Fao Bhang, if he's to achieve his one last goal: revenge on a biblical scale, no matter the odds or the armies that he will have to fight his way through. Andreas—former Army Ranger and Delta—is a man of great skills and cunning. His opponent, Fao Bhang, is ruthless, determined, and with no limit to the assets at his disposal.
In this conflict, there are only two possible outcomes. And only one Dewey Andreas.

Coes’s heart-pounding fourth Dewey Andreas thriller (after 2012’s The Last Refuge) finds the ex–Delta Force member still fighting the world’s baddest bad guys and coming away bloodied but on top. Fao Bhang, China’s minister of state security, decides to have the American killed while he visits Argentina, but the mission goes awry, resulting instead in the death of someone close to Dewey. Bhang exerts diplomatic pressure to escape any official consequences for his actions, so Dewey strikes out on his own to exact revenge. The CIA and MI6 try to recruit him for their plan to terminate Bhang, but Dewey refuses, as this time it’s personal. Coes is a master at creating extended scenes of intense mayhem, and Dewey is a hero who will have patriotic readers standing in their seats cheering. An ambiguous ending leaves readers with a frightening question: will Dewey live to fight again? Agent: Nicole James, Aaron M. Priest Literary Agency.

- content: Peter Hermann is perfectly cast to take the listener on this thrilling adventure with a hero of few words. Dewey Andreas, who is ex-Delta Force, has a chequered past. After a surprisingly slow start , the action in this revenge story doesn't cease until he triumphs against all odds in the end. Along the way, Hermann must voice multiple Chinese and English characters plus German, Irish, Ukrainian, Iranian, Israeli, and French accents. While he does so with gusto, his success is variable. But does it matter? Not really. This is a great listen for those who want thrills rather than analysis. Even a thirty-minute car chase doesn't pall for listeners who are happy to give themselves over to all-American heroism. C.A.T. (c) AudioFile 2013, Portland, Maine
