Description

Return to New York Times Bestselling Author Lori Wilde's beloved town of Cupid, Texas, where wedding fever is in the air . . . and two best friends discover that sometimes the perfect match is standing right in front of you . . .

Ember Alzate is a fantastic matchmaker with one big problem: she can't find the perfect mate for herself! Alzate family legend says that when she kisses "the One" she'll hear a mysterious humming in her head. Well, Ember's kissed a lot of guys and she's never heard a thing. Now, instead of searching for herself, she vows to find her best friend, Ranger Lockhart, a bride. It's clear this smart, sexy man just needs to meet the right gal.

Ranger's returned home to Cupid with marriage on his mind, but he's not interested in the parade of women Ember pushes under his nose. His thoughts keep returning to his best friend—with her combustible combination of curves and sass. No one compares to Ember, but what's it going to take to convince her she's the woman for him?

      • content: Narrator Lisa Zimmerman brings the feel of Texas to this romance between Ember Alzate and Ranger Lockhart. Ember and Ranger have been best friends all their lives, but not until Ranger returns from a year away in New Zealand do they start to realize that their friendship has blossomed into love. When Ranger has a colleague visit from New Zealand, Zimmerman provides an appropriate accent. And while Zimmerman brings a nasal quality to Ranger that doesn't quite suit, she does a fine job with the characters' Western drawls. S.B. © AudioFile 2018, Portland, Maine

In Wilde’s capable sixth Cupid, Texas contemporary (after Million Dollar Cowboy), best friends decide whether they want to become lovers. Successful realtor Ember Alzate returned to Cupid, Tex., from San Antonio to get away from her ex-husband. When her best friend, Ranger Lockhart, comes back to Cupid after a year in New Zealand doing postdoctoral research, kindhearted meddler Ember decides to set him up with church secretary Fiona. But as Ember directs a local chamber of commerce film they’re starring in, she realizes she wants Ranger for herself. Amid matchmaking antics and the zany escapades of filming, Ember and Ranger discover that the sizzling attraction between them is difficult to ignore, but they hesitate to reveal their true feelings for fear of forever ruining their lifelong friendship. A cast of varied and richly developed characters fills the pages of this novel, which has plenty of twists and turns along the way to happiness. Agent: Jenny Bent, Bent Agency.

Love is in the stars for a matchmaker and her astronomer best friend in the latest installment of Wilde's (Cowboy, It's Cold Outside, 2017, etc.) Cupid, Texas series. After her divorce, Ember Alzate moves back to Cupid, Texas, where her matchmaking skills are put to the test. Ranger Lockhart, her handsome best friend, is up for a promotion at the observatory, and she thinks the best way to help him is to find him a smooth-talking wife to help him with the fundraising part of the job. But she can't seem to find anyone who's a good match. It's easy to see where this is going, but Ember is under a lot of pressure. According to an old family legend, she'll hear a humming sound when she kisses her true love. So far, she's kissed just about everyone but Ranger. If she kisses him and hears silence, her long-held fantasy that he's her soul mate will be ruined. The tension builds as Ember sets Ranger up with dates against her own best interest, for who could resist a cowboy who is also a scientist? But Ranger thinks Ember is his perfect match. She might have been too outspoken, too impulsive, "too everything" for her ex, but to Ranger, Ember is just right. While Ranger bides his time, the spunky heroine throws out a lot of cute one-liners--"That's not the best idea in the West" --and hopes she can rope him in before someone else does.Wilde presents compelling evidence that love can make a person see stars and hear wedding bells with a single kiss.

Professor Ranger Lockheart knows he has the scientific chops to take over as director of the McDonald Observatory. The people doing the hiring, however, believe Ranger lacks the social skills needed for the job. Fortunately, Ranger has a solution: find a wife who can do the schmoozing to raise funds and perform the cosseting donors expect. Of course, everyone in Cupid knows that if you are looking for a mate, the person you need most is Ember Alzate, the tiny Texas town's unofficial matchmaker. Since Ranger is her best friend in the world, Ember is more than happy to try to get him hitched up with the right woman. The only problem is that Ranger doesn't seem to be clicking with any of the ladies Ember sends his way! In addition to being a clever modern spin on Austen's classic, Emma, Wilde's (Cowboy, It's Cold Outside, 2017) latest exudes the same brand of sassy, sexy charm that have made the previous five Cupid, Texas yarns winners with fans of contemporary western romance.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
