Plum Lucky

Looking to get lucky?
Stephanie Plum is back between-the-numbers and she's looking to get lucky in an Atlantic City hotel room, in a Winnebago, and with a brown-eyed stud who has stolen her heart.
Stephanie Plum has a way of attracting danger, lunatics, oddballs, bad luck . . . and mystery men. And no one is more mysterious than the unmentionable Diesel. He's back and hot on the trail of a little man in green pants who's lost a giant bag of money. Problem is, the money isn't exactly lost. Stephanie's Grandma Mazur has found it, and like any good Jersey senior citizen, she's hightailed it in a Winnebago to Atlantic City and hit the slots. With Lula and Connie in tow, Stephanie attempts to bring Grandma home, but the luck of the Irish is rubbing off on everyone: Lula's found a job modeling plus-size lingerie. Connie's found a guy. Diesel's found Stephanie. And Stephanie has found herself in over her head with a caper involving thrice-stolen money, a racehorse, a car chase, and a bad case of hives.
Plum Lucky is an all-you-can-eat buffet of thrills, chills, shrimp cocktail, plus-size underwear, and scorching hot men. It's a between-the-numbers treat no Evanovich fan will want to miss!

- bioText: Janet Evanovich is the author of the Stephanie Plum books, including One for the Money and Sizzling Sixteen, and the Diesel & Tucker series, including Wicked Appetite. Janet studied painting at Douglass College, but that art form never quite fit, and she soon moved on to writing stories. She didn't have instant success: she collected a big box of rejection letters. As she puts it, "When the box was full I burned the whole damn thing, crammed myself into pantyhose and went to work for a temp agency." But after a few months of secretarial work, she managed to sell her first novel for $2,000. She immediately quit her job and started working full-time as a writer. After a dozen romance novels, she switched to mystery, and created Stephanie Plum. The rest is history. Janet's favorite exercise is shopping, and her drug of choice is Cheeze Doodles.

In bestseller Evanovich’s breezy third holiday novella (after Plum Lovin’
), Stephanie Plum’s kooky Grandma Mazur finds a duffle full of money on the street and hightails it to Atlantic City. When Stephanie learns that the money was stolen from Delvina, a notorious Trenton mobster, she and her friend Lula head off in pursuit. In Atlantic City, the Jersey bounty hunter discovers she’s not the only one after Grandma after meeting Snuggy, an ex-jockey who originally stole the money and is convinced he’s a leprechaun. With her on-again off-again boyfriend Morelli tied up with a murder case and the sexy Ranger otherwise occupied, Stephanie turns to the mysterious Diesel for help. As she tries to keep Grandma safe and fend off the advances of Diesel amid the slot machines and craps tables, Stephanie realizes she may be in over her head. With her trademark wit, cast of eccentric side characters and hilariously absurd plot twists, Evanovich treats her fans to a delightful miniadventure sure to whet their appetites for the next full-length Plum escapade.

Evanovich has been producing these short and sweet bonbons in the Stephanie Plum Trenton universe around holidays: Christmas (Visions of Sugar Plums, 2002), Valentines Day (Plum Lovin, 2007), this ones for St. Patricks. The theme is green, as in a guy who thinks he is a leprechaun, talks to horses, andsteals a bagful of cash that Stephanies Grandma Mazur lifts and takes to Atlantic City. Also present in these interludes between Evanovichs numbered Plum series is the enigmatice Diesel, who has powers beyond those of mortal men (even Stephanies two beaux, Morelli and Ranger). The usual cast finds itself in Atlantic City, trying to hold on to the leprechaun, win back the money, and rescue the horse, until a very ugly mobster, whose money was pinched by the leprechaun, kidnaps Grandma Mazur. Diesel may be an angel, but he thinks Stephanies hot, and Stephanie may be a skip tracer, but she also worries about her grandma. Oh, and for awhile, the horse really is in her kitchen. Silly, hilarious, delightful.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2008, American Library Association.)

Starred review from February 25, 2008
Evanovich's latest “Between-the-Numbers” outing begins on St. Patrick's Day, when bounty hunter Stephanie Plum spots her Grandma Mazur dragging a mysterious duffel bag down the street. Then Grandma Mazur vanishes, and Stephanie's frantic mother begs Stephanie to track her down. Soon, Stephanie and her usual band of sidekicks (including sexy, inexplicably lucky Diesel) are on their way to Atlantic City and into a hilariously funny mess involving stolen mob money, a kidnapped horse and a thief/con artist who thinks he's a leprechaun. Lorelei King does the story justice, milking the prose for every drop of humor with her amusing, distinctive and superlatively accented rendition of each character. Her voices border on caricature, but that's entirely appropriate for this farcical, delightful New Jersey jelly doughnut of a novel, a satisfying snack for listeners anxiously awaiting Stephanie's 14th full-length adventure. Simultaneous release with the St. Martin's hardcover (Reviews, Dec. 24).
