Description

The number 1 New York Times–bestselling author is back with an electrifying new entry in the FBI series featuring Savich and Sherlock.
FBI Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith, last seen in Backfire, has been recruited by Dillon Savich to join his unit in Washington, D.C. Savich sees something special in Hammersmith, an almost preternatural instinct for tracking criminals.
While on his way to D.C., Hammersmith plans to visit his sister, Delsey, a student at Stanislaus School of Music in Maestro, Virginia. Before he arrives, he gets a phone call that Delsey was found naked, unconscious, and covered with blood after a wild party. The blood isn't hers—so who does it belong to?
Meanwhile, back in D.C., Savich and Sherlock have their hands full when the grandson of former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank is found murdered, every bone in his body broken, and frozen at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial.
Was Savich right—is Griffin gifted with a unique ability to "see" how criminals think? And will he figure out who was behind the attempt on Delsey's life—before it's too late?

        May 27, 2013
In bestseller Coulter’s captivating 17th FBI novel (after 2012’s Backfire), FBI agent Griffin Hammersmith learns on his way to a new assignment in Washington, D.C., that an intruder has attacked his sister, Delsey, in her Maestro, Va., home. With the assistance of local law enforcement and the DEA, Griffin discovers that his sister was the target of a sinister drug ring, which may be connected to a visiting professor at the prestigious music school Delsey attends. Meanwhile, husband-and-wife FBI agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock investigate the high-profile murder of college student Tommy Cronin, the grandson of a former Federal Reserve chairman. Their search for Tommy’s killer leads them on an exciting chase involving the Washington elite. As the body count rises, it appears that no one associated with Tommy is safe. Coulter expertly jacks up the suspense as she alternates between the two plot lines. Agent: Robert Gottlieb, Trident Media Group.

FBI agents tackle several high-profile cases in and around the Beltway. On his way to Washington to join fellow agents Dillon Savich and his wife, Lacey Sherlock, Griffin Hammersmith plans to stop off and visit his sister Delsey, a student at the prestigious Stanislaus School of Music. But he has to go to the hospital to find Delsey, who was discovered in her apartment unconscious and covered in blood. Meanwhile, Savich and Sherlock are called in when a body turns up at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial with injuries consistent with a fall from a great height. Before the police even arrive, the body is identified by a picture posted online as the grandson of the much-reviled former chairman of the Federal Reserve. Although the consensus is that the bright young university student was killed in revenge for his grandfather's failed policies, Savich and Lacey do not rule out a more personal motive, especially when the victim's two lifelong friends end up equally dead. Back in Virginia, Delsey recalls being attacked by at least one Latino man, and Hammersmith's uncanny ability to read people reveals the fact that Delsey's best friend is an undercover drug agent working on a case involving a visiting professor and a major drug cartel. When Delsey is targeted by the gang, Hammersmith scrambles to break the case before her obituary follows the others. The latest addition to Coulter's FBI series (Whiplash, 2010, etc.) uses a run-of-the-mill mystery to bring together some of her fans' favorite characters.

        July 1, 2013
During a winter weekend in the Washington, D.C., area, a student at the Stanislaus School of Music in Maestro, Virginia, is attacked, and a young man's body is found at the Lincoln Memorial. When aspiring musician Delsey Freestone's family nickname of the Trouble Magnet holds true (she's hit on the head when she finds a bloody body in her bathtub), her brother, FBI agent Griffin Hammersmith, en route to join agent Dillon Savich's special unit in Washington, is soon there to help. Meanwhile Savich and his wife, Sherlock, are investigating the murder of Tommy Cronin, grandson of the former chairman of the former Fed chairman, who raised ire by retiring when the financial crisis erupted. As the situation in Maestro expands to major proportions, Tommy's closest friends find themselves at risk. While Coulter tackles up-to-the-minute issues (international drug trafficking, the fiscal meltdown), adds a touch of romance, and resolves crimes satisfactorily, her seventeenth FBI thriller seems short on the verve of earlier entries; coauthoring an upcoming new series, A Brit in the FBI, may be just the change she needs.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
