Spinsterhood has its advantages in the small village of Loves Bridge; some lucky unmarried woman gets to live by herself at Spinster House until she dies or gets married. It's one of the only ways (short of being a widow) for a woman to have a truly independent life. Now that her two best friends, Cat and Anne, featured in the earlier installments in MacKenzie's Spinster House trilogyWhat to Do with a Duke (2015) and How to Manage a Marquess (2016)have wed, Jane Wilkinson is overjoyed to win the opportunity to live at the home. At the ripe old age of 28, she has neither the time nor the need for the opposite sex. Jane is aided by Poppy, the cat that comes with Spinster House, who strikes fear in the hearts of men. Alex, Earl of Evans, having just been jilted by his fiancee, is in no hurry to repeat his mistake. However, Poppy tolerates Alex, which has to be a sign of something. Friends and relatives alike feel that Alex and Jane belong together. All they need is a little (maybe not so subtle) push.
