The Last Heroes
(OverDrive MP3 Audiobook, OverDrive Listen)
Description
June, 1941. Determined that the United States will be prepared for war, Franklin D. Roosevelt and "Wild Bill" Donovan orchestrate the most complex espionage organization in history, the Office of Strategic Services. Young and daring, the OSS assemble under a thin camouflage of diplomacy and then disperse throughout the world to conduct their operations. And no operation is more critical than the one being conducted by hotshot pilot Richard Canidy and his half-German friend Eric Fulmar: to secure the rare ore that will power a top-secret weapon coveted on both sides of the Atlantic—the atomic bomb.

- content: Michael Russotto seems to be the "house reader" for all Griffin books published by BOT. Maybe it's time for a change. In the THE LAST HEROES, Griffin's writing carries the day. Although Russotto is above average in his ability to differentiate characters and genders, and is more than reasonably expressive in his delivery, he lacks depth of vocal quality in his presentation. From time to time his tone borders on whiny with an occasional uncomfortable sing-song to his cadence. Griffin's work, however, is wonderful. Characters, settings and historical content are developed to the fullest. But, to do Griffin justice, it's time for a new reader. T.J.M. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
