Opening a shop catering to foreign visitors who might drop choice information would also give Leah a chance to get to know her daughter, Mally, whom she left at birth. As she keeps watch on visiting dignitaries, Leah is drawn into a world of bloodshed and secrets--secrets kept by those closest to her that could help her nation but leave her heartbroken. VERDICT Shinn's fourth outing (after Jeweled Fire) blends a potent brew of politics and alchemy, set in a richly detailed landscape.
