The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress
(OverDrive MP3 Audiobook, OverDrive Listen)
Revolution is brewing on twenty-first-century Luna, a moon-based penal colony where oppressed "Loonies" are being exploited by a harsh Authority that controls it from Earth. Against all odds, a ragtag collection of dissidents has banded together in revolt, including a young female radical, an elderly academic, a one-armed computer jock, and a nearly omnipotent supercomputer named Mike, whose sentience is known only to this inner circle and who is committed to the revolution for reasons of his own.
Drawing many historical parallels with the War of Independence, Heinlein's fourth Hugo Award–winning novel is a gripping tale bursting with politics, humanity, passion, innovative technical speculation, and a firm belief in the pursuit of human freedom.
Robert A. Heinlein was the most influential science fiction writer of his era, winning the Hugo Award for best novel a record four times. The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress was the last of these Hugo-winning novels and is widely considered his finest work.

Heinlein is a seven-time Hugo Award recipient and was given the first Grand Master Nebula Award for lifetime achievement. Heinlein's juveniles alone have influenced generations of scientists, engineers and creators the world over (for instance, it was once estimated that everyone in the Apollo 11 mission control room had read and loved at least one Heinlein novel). His worldwide bestsellers include Have Space Suit — Will Travel, Stranger in a Strange Land, Starship Troopers, Time Enough for Love, and The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress.

- content: Here's an audio handbook on running a revolution. The year is 2075. The moon has long been Earth's penal colony, but now her inhabitants throw off the chains of oppression and struggle to establish the Free Lunar State. George Wilson's low-key narration rarely falters, even when dealing with the polyglot "loonie" speech, which is liberally sprinkled with Russian words. There are several main characters, including Mike, the super-computer, and scores of minor roles. Wilson gives each a distinct and recognizable voice. Manuel, the novel's narrator, is a cool character; Wilson carefully maintains Manuel's detachment in the reading. Even the love scene is understated and, as a result of the disciplined presentation, the listener becomes increasingly engaged in this unique book. L.R.S. (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
