At age 20, Jorg Ancrath is king of seven countries. Though he has not yet avenged himself against his father, he sets his sights on the position of emperor--a title acquired not through victory in battle but by the vote of the countries he would rule. No one has ever received enough votes to claim the throne of the emperor, but Jorg is determined to succeed. When he discovers that an adversary has appeared on the scene with powers that threaten his own, however, Jorg realizes that to clear his way to future power, he must first seek answers in his tortured past. The final volume in Lawrence's trilogy, which includes Prince of Thorns and King of Thorns, brings the epic tale of one man's path to power to a surprising yet fitting end. VERDICT Fans of epic and military fantasy should enjoy this tale that is set in a land similar to Europe in the Middle Ages and adds magic and ancient technologies.
