Description

When Eve's biological sister goes missing, the nun heads to Las Vegas to track her down before it's too late.

Years ago, Eve heard God's call to become a nun, but her recent stint moonlighting at her father's detective agency invigorates her so much that she's wrestling with her vocation. She's working with him on a case involving a miner in New Mexico when alarming news develops: her sister Dorisanne is missing. The authorities won't act without evidence of a crime, but Eve knows something suspicious—and possibly deadly—is afoot. Challenged to put her newfound gifts as a PI to the test, Sister Eve heads west to Las Vegas to uncover clues about her sister's whereabouts.

What nefarious scheme has Dorisanne become involved in? Is her life in danger? And what is Dorisanne's estranged husband hiding? Sister Eve will discover there's always more going on in Sin City than meets the eye.

After two decades at her New Mexico convent, Sister Eve has reached a crossroads in her life. Her recent stint (Sister Eve Private Eye) helping her detective father solve a murder ended with Eve questioning whether the religious life is truly her calling. Taking a leave of absence from the convent, she is again working with her father on another case when she learns that her biological sister, Dorisanne, is missing. Sister Eve heads to Las Vegas to investigate. Is Dorisanne's disappearance self-imposed or is her husband involved? VERDICT This sophomore series outing is a witty and delightful cozy that will enthrall fans of Gay Hendricks and Tinker Lindsay's "Tenzig Norbu" series about a Tibetan monk-turned-detective as well as readers who appreciate a different type of sleuth and a book with a faith-based flavor.

The second in this smart series featuring detective Eve Divine brings the nun to Las Vegas in search of her sister, Dorisanne. Eve takes a leave of absence from the convent to explore her growing unrest and desire to work as a private detective. After a few weeks when no one has heard from her sister, she and her father's old partner, Daniel, travel to Sin City to find her. Eve and Daniel learn that Dorisanne and her husband may have been involved in a credit-card scam where she worked. Matters take a turn for the worse when Dorisanne's neighbor is beaten, and Eve is chased by a man on a motorcycle. Eve is a talented Harley rider herself and calls on her skills and her faith to keep everyone safe. Hinton's appealing, multidimensional cast and cleverly written mystery will appeal to both inspirational and secular genre fans.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
