Ballad for Sophie

When young journalist Adeline persuades reclusive pianist and former variety show host Julien Dubois to give her an interview, he begins a lengthy account of his life, his relationships with his single mother, who later collaborated with the Nazis, and his rival, François Samson, a superb musician but the son of a janitor, and his experiences in music and entertainment in twentieth-century France.
