Now 30 years later, Lord Peter recollects fact about that case with his wife, detective novelist Harriet Vane. Coincidentally, the new Lord Attenbury, the grandson of Lord Peter's first client, calls on the veteran sleuth to help settle a dispute over the ownership of the jewels.
