A quiet seaside resort. An abandoned shop. A small flat. This is what awaits Polly Waterford when she arrives at the Cornish coast, fleeing a ruined relationship.
To keep her mind off her troubles, Polly throws herself into her favorite hobby: making bread. But her relaxing weekend diversion quickly develops into a passion. Soon, Polly is working her magic with nuts and seeds, chocolate and sugar, and the local honey—courtesy of a handsome beekeeper. Packed with laughter and emotion, Little Beach Street Bakery is the story of how one woman discovered bright new life where she least expected—a heartwarming, mouthwatering modern-day Chocolat that has already become a massive international bestseller.

Welcome to Polbearne, a Cornish tidal town where the men are hot and the women have plenty of emotional baggage. Colgan's (Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe; The Loveliest Chocolate Shop in Paris) latest chick lit offering drops readers into the world of Polly Waterford. With a bankrupt business and an ex-boyfriend in her rear mirror, Polly moves to a dilapidated flat far away from the yuppie lifestyle she used to revere. Life on the island isn't perfect, but Polly throws herself into her favorite hobby: baking bread. The bread not only nourishes her soul but a lso the townsfolk, and Polly finds herself operating a bakery with the help of new friends Huckle and Tarnie. As her relationships grow stronger, the real reasons behind each person's sabbatical to the island become clear. When tragedy strikes, the town pulls together like never before and Polly is faced with her toughest challenge yet. VERDICT A predictable but cozy read, perfect for chick lit lovers and those craving a mental vacation. Serve with a side of sourdough.--Chelsie Harris, San Diego Cty. Lib.

Polly Waterford is starting over after both her relationship and the business she and her boyfriend shared fail. She moves to an isolated town on the Cornish coast and finds solace in baking bread and pastries for her neighbors, eventually earning a job and grudging respect from the local bakery's cantankerous owner. She befriends the local fishermen and townspeople, especially charming Tarnie. Polly also hits it off with another outsider, Huckle, a ruggedly handsome American who's nursing a broken heart and running a fledgling beekeeping and honey business. Colgan, the author of Meet Me at the Cupcake Cafe (2013), doesn't stray far from the mix of quirky characters, winsome romance, and real recipes that made her previous books so successful. This confection of a novel, which includes recipes, will please her fans and can be recommended to readers who enjoy novels by Jill Mansell and Jojo Moyes(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2015, American Library Association.)
