Ian Maddox was the most ruthless member of the Trio, a top-secret group of English spies disbanded after Napoleon's death. With both Clayton (featured in Sins of a Ruthless Rogue) and Madeline (featured in Sins of a Virgin) now happily married, Ian heads off in search of the person trying to kill them. Princess Juliana Castanova fled her tiny kingdom of Lenoria after a rebellion triggered by the Trio caused the deaths of her parents. She has no sympathy for the Trio, but she needs Ian's help to defeat the English Duke of Sommet, who's offered to put Juliana's younger brother, Gregory, on Lenoria's throne in exchange for mineral rights in the country. Juliana is naïve about politics but is dedicated to her kingdom and independent; Ian wants to keep her safe, but she doesn't need him to rescue her. The initial seduction and stolen moments are steamy and erotic without losing tenderness as the two fall more deeply in love. The chess match among different political forces, family members, and lovers is as refreshingly complex as the characters' personalities and histories, making Ian and Juliana's triumph that much sweeter.
