Released from the military because of downsizing, widowed mechanic Kai Tiernan returns to her wrangling roots and is relieved to be hired on at Jackson Hole's Bar H Ranch. Her joy is short-lived, though, when the ranch foreman turns out to be Gil Hanford, a man who abruptly disappeared from her life and one she wishes she could simply forget. However, the passion between Kai and Gil hasn't died, and when it flares to life, they are forced to put their emotions on the table and reconcile their history, if they want to have a future together. VERDICT A pair of war-scarred protagonists reconnect after years apart in a heartfelt romance that nicely continues the series. McKenna (Forged in Fire) lives in Cottonwood, AZ.
