Description

New York Times bestselling author Lynn Kurland returns to her enchanting Nine Kingdoms saga as the epic adventure of a weaver and an elven prince continues…
Aisling of Bruadair is frantic to find both the truth about her future and a mercenary to save her country. When an offer of aid comes from an unexpected direction, she is relieved her quest is almost complete. But she soon realizes her task is far from over . . . and will include perils she never dreamed she would ever face.
Rùnach of Ceangail has offered to help Aisling with her quest, then he fully intends to take up his life as a simple swordsman far from magic and evil mages. Unfortunately, a chance finding of a book of indecipherable spells tells him that an ordinary life is never going to be his—especially when he realizes that the book he has in his hands belongs to a black mage who will stop at nothing to have it back.
With time running out, Rùnach and Aisling must solve what seem to be unrelated mysteries before others find those answers first and plunge the Nine Kingdoms into a darkness it will never recover from  . . .

Kurland’s eighth novel of the Nine Kingdoms (after Dreamspinner) continues the adventures of Aisling of Bruadair, who was raised in a weavers’ guild in a stark country that one must not speak of for fear of being cursed with death. Having dared to leave home, Aisling is starting to realize that there is bountiful legend, magic, and beauty in the Nine Kingdoms. Aisling is traveling from haven to haven with her brave elfin prince companion, Rùnach of Ceangail, on a quest to save her dying country and restore Rùnach’s stolen magic. Despite not understanding Aisling’s unusual talent for spinning air, fire, and water, Rùnach devotes himself to the reserved, humble weaver who doesn’t recognize his persistent (and artless) wooing. Aisling and Runach’s tender romance sweetly ratchets up as they take turns saving each other from perilous danger, and series fans will be left eager to read about their future adventures.

Aisling and Runach's adventure continues, as Runach steps more fully into his royal heritage, leading them back to his grandfather's elven kingdom, where they will seek answers as to who Aisling truly is and how they might save the Nine Kingdoms. After Aisling is sent on a quest she never asked for and meets up with Runach, an elven prince and mage who has lost his magic, the two travel to an array of magical places Aisling never imagined existed. But her travels with Runach have taught the weaver a few things, the most important one being that he is a man she can depend on. When it becomes clear that there are people who want them both dead, they seek sanctuary in Seanagarra, the magical elven realm of Runach's grandfather. There, Runach tries to decipher an enigmatic spell book he found on his journey that might have some answers they both need in order to succeed in saving her country but which has also brought about the wrath of a black mage, who will kill to recover the book and its secrets. Meanwhile, under the mystical influence of Seanagarra and Runach's grandparents, Aisling seems to become more powerful and magical in ways none of them have ever seen, even though the elder generation has some idea of who she really is and what is in her future. Aisling and Runach have been slowly and quietly falling in love, but the time has come to commit to one another and to Aisling's quest and in doing so, learn of the network of people who have been watching and waiting for the day they take up the challenge in earnest. Taking up where Dreamspinner (2012) left off, Kurland continues her romantic fantasy series with the same elegant writing--though a few oft-repeated phrases do get distracting--and imagination, taking the reader on an adventure chock full of magical beings, breathtaking descriptions, and beautifully rendered characters and situations. An enchanting, vibrant story that captures romance, fantasy and adventure with intriguing detail and an epic, fairy-tale sensibility.

Magic exists only in stories, or at least that's what Aisling of Bruadair grew up believing. Thrown into a world full of elves and mages, she is close to completing her quest. With the help of Rnach of Ceangail, a scarred elven prince who lost his magic, her task of finding a swordsman to save her country is almost complete. Rnach desires a simple life, but the more time he spends with Aisling, the more he realizes that the future is more uncertain than ever. Aisling is human, so how does she manage to control the elements and speak in languages she never learned? How did a spell book he crafted wind up full of mysterious markings? Aisling and Rnach must solve these mysteries before the answers wind up in the wrong hands, and time is running out. This story continues Dreamspinner (2012), and contributes to Kurland's many-titled Nine Kingdoms saga. Here Kurland crafts a beautifully detailed world full of magic and steeped in a rich history that paranormal romance and fantasy readers will get lost in.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2013, American Library Association.)
