The Christmas Town: A Novel
(Adobe EPUB eBook, Kindle Book, OverDrive Read)
Donna VanLiere, New York Times bestselling author of the timeless The Christmas Shoes and The Christmas Hope, is back with this moving and uplifting story about finding love, hope, and family in unexpected places.
Lauren Gabriel spent many years of her childhood in foster homes, wishing her mother would come back for her and be the family she needs. Now twenty-years-old, she still longs for a place that she can truly call home. Her work as a cashier is unfulfilling, and at Christmas it's unbearable with the songs and carols and chatter of Christmas that she hears throughout the day.
When Lauren ends her shift one night, she finds herself driving aimlessly in order to avoid returning to her lonely apartment. And when she witnesses a car accident she is suddenly pulled into the small town of Grandon, first as a witness but then as a volunteer for the annual fundraiser for Glory's Place, a center for single mothers and families who need assistance. Could this town and its people be the home she has always longed for?

Raised in foster care, 20-year-old Lauren Gabriel dreads the holidays; she really hasn't got a place to call home. But while she's out driving to whisk away her haunting sadness, she chances upon an accident and lands in the town of Grandon as witness. Staying around for the annual fundraiser for a local charity, Lauren thinks she may finally have found her place. After seven Christmas books (e.g., The Christmas Shoes), VanLiere has become as much a holiday tradition as fruitcake and mistletoe.

After spending half of her life in foster care, Lauren Gabriel is now 20 years old and still longing for a home and family. She's barely surviving as a grocery store cashier and dreading another lonely Christmas. After witnessing a hit-and-run accident in the neighboring town of Grandon, she's soon drawn into the community and even volunteers at the annual Christmas fundraiser for Glory's Place, a center that has a food pantry and after-school care for down-on-their-luck families. Local residents embrace Lauren, and she begins to hope that she just might end up with a real family for Christmas after all. VERDICT With eight other yuletide novels under her belt, VanLiere (The Christmas Light) is an expert at tugging heartstrings, and this sincere tearjerker delivers.
