Description

Filled with the enticing blend of suspense and romance Coble is known for, "devotees of Dani Pettrey, Brenda Novak, and Allison Brennan will find a new favorite here."*

After her husband, Jack, dies in a climbing incident, Shauna has only her five-year-old son and her helicopter charter business to live for. Every day is a struggle to make ends meet and she lives in constant fear of losing even more than she already has.

When her business partner is murdered, his final words convince Shauna that she's in danger too. But where can she turn? Zach Bannister was her husband's best friend and is the person she blames for his death. She's barely spoken to him since. But right now he seems her only hope for protecting her son.

Zach is only too happy to assuage his guilt over Jack's death by helping Shauna any way he can. But there are secrets involved dating back to Shauna's childhood that more than one person would prefer to stay hidden.

Coble (Twilight at Blueberry Barrens) keeps the tension tight and the action moving in this gripping tale, the first in her Lavender Tides series set in the Pacific Northwest. Having blamed her husband’s death in a climbing accident on his best friend Zach, Shauna is reluctant to continue her friendship with Zach. But when her business partner is murdered and she feels her life and five-year-old her son’s are in jeopardy, Zach steps in as their protector. As they search for clues about the murder and stumble closer to the truth, secrets from Shauna’s childhood turn out to be important to their current situation. Zach’s guilt motivates him to help Shauna, but his burgeoning feelings for her also propel him into danger’s path. In the midst of life-threatening events, Shauna must decide if she’s ready to allow God, and potentially another man, into her life again. The characters’ high-stakes adventures parallel their emotional stresses, particularly around the subject of second chances—poignantly exposed in Shauna’s question to her mother-in-law, “Do you want me to be unhappy forever?” Coble effectively uses the Pacific Northwest setting to further the plot, giving fans another reason to welcome this well-crafted kick-off to a new series.

A year after her husband's death, Shauna McDade still blames his climbing partner for her loss and refuses to have contact with him. Yet when close friends suddenly begin dying, Shauna realizes the only person she can trust to guarantee both her safety and that of her son is the one man she swore she'd never speak to again. Zach Bannister, haunted by the accident that took the life of his childhood friend, is happy to help, and the two soon discover that an aerial photograph Shauna took over Puget Sound, WA, may be linked to the murders. VERDICT Set on Washington State's Olympic Peninsula, this first volume of Coble's ("Sunset Cove" series) new suspense series is a tensely plotted and harrowing tale of murder, corporate greed, and family secrets. Devotees of Dani Pettrey, Brenda Novak, and Allison Brennan will find a new favorite here.
