Romain’s Regency debut is predictable but entertaining as two sisters get involved with the same man. When Louisa Oliver returns from her London season with her new fiancé, James, Viscount Matheson, no one is more delighted than her somewhat airheaded stepsister, Julia. But when James and Julia realize their banter has become more than friendship, they worry about hurting Louisa, unaware she is more interested in libraries than in making an advantageous marriage. Before these tangled relationships can be unraveled, the ton will be scandalized and Julia’s reputation destroyed. Readers will enjoy Romain’s humorous, lively approach, which compensates for anachronisms and plot holes.
