Some foods just taste better when cooked on an open flame under the stars. But who knew camp cuisine could be so elevated, pleasing even the most discerning foodie? Hanel and Stevenson, authors of the IACP award-winning The Picnic: Recipes and Inspiration from Basket to Blanket, here share cast iron-tested recipes for all kinds of meals and palettes. While they offer twists on traditional camp favorites such as pudgie pies, they also include themed, curated menus (e.g., "Plein Air Pizza," or "Forest Fiesta"). Many recipes feature ways to incorporate the rustic setting into the meal (e.g., cooking with a stick or preparing a freshly caught fish). Looking to upgrade your hot dogs or s'mores? Suggestions for inventive toppings are provided for each. The "Fortifications" chapter provides tasty cocktail recipes that can be prepared in a flask or Thermos. Many of the recipes are kid-pleasing and vegetarian-friendly. The colorful guide also includes solid camping tips, tricks, and safety information to make your trip memorable beyond the meals.
