Description
Bestselling author Diane Mott Davidson has cooked up yet another tantalizing feast of murder, mystery, and mayhem. Dubbed Queen of the Culinary Mystery by her fans, Davidson adroitly defends her crown with this delectable offering of
suspense, spiced with a dash of romance and a pinch of humor. Goldy Bear, Aspen Meadow's caterer extraordinaire, is catering a dinner at the exclusive Elk Park Preparatory School. At the end of the evening, a horrified Goldy discovers the school valedictorian's battered body heaped in the snow. When a
series of disturbing pranks leads her to believe that her son might be the next victim, Goldy launches her investigation. Delving into the scandals permeating the halls of academia, Goldy stumbles upon another grisly murder, and another. Diane Mott Davidson's deliciously fast-paced plot and her heroine's recipes for such enticing delights as Sugar Plum Cake and Sweetheart Sandwiches leave the reader satisfied, yet hoping for more.

        November 1, 1993
This delightfully wicked mystery features food expert Goldy Bear, seen last in Dying for Chocolate . Goldy, 31 and the divorced mother of a 12-year-old son and the owner of Goldilocks Catering (``Where Everything Is Just Right!'') in Aspen Meadow, Colo., caters as many as three events a day, even while solving a murder or two. After catering the senior class dinner at the exclusive but undistinguished Elk Park Prepatory School, Goldy discovers the body of the class valedictorian, Keith Andrews, strangled by one of her extension cords. Tom Schulz, gourmet cook, Goldy's lover and head homicide detective for the Aspen Meadow police, quickly discovers that Keith may have been an extortionist and a thief. Probing further, he and Goldy find that the senior class (oddly restrained in their response to the murder) and their rancorous parents are a group for whom obsession with grades, nasty competition over college slots and blatant bribery are the norm. The book proves to be a light but delicious combination of unique personalities, first-rate recipes and sustained suspense, with only a surfeit of red herrings for leftovers.

      • content: Davidson and Rosenblat have created a unique and terrific piece of art, using elements of humor, danger, drama and suspense. Outstanding characterization is a talent both women possess. Rosenblat uses a pleasing variety of pitch, rhythms and voices. As always, Goldy, of Goldilocks Catering, cooks and solves a puzzling mystery. Often described as "the Julia Child of mystery writers," Davidson includes Goldy's recipes at the end of each narrative. Listeners will become "addicted" to this great team! S.C.A. Winner of AUDIOFILE's Earphones Award (c)AudioFile, Portland, Maine
