Description

Plucky heroine Dixie Hemingway is back in this ninth installment of Blaize Clement's beloved cozy mystery series.
While driving along the beachside road that runs through the center of her hometown Dixie witnesses a terrible head-on collision. Ever the hero, she springs into action and pulls one of the drivers from his car just before it explodes in flames. A little shaken but none the worse for wear, Dixie proceeds to her local bookstore where she meets Cosmo, a fluffy, orange tomcat, and Mr. Hoskins, the store's kind but strangely befuddled owner. The next day the driver whose life she saved claims that he is Dixie's husband.
Meanwhile, both Cosmo and Mr. Hoskins have disappeared without a trace, and a mysterious phone call from a new client lures her to a crumbling, abandoned mansion on the outskirts of town. Soon Dixie finds herself locked in a riddle of deception, revenge, murder, and mystery.
The Cat Sitter's Nine Lives features a compelling main character and a riveting plot that is bound to satisfy the appetites of Dixie Hemingway fans and newcomers to the series.

        September 8, 2014
At the start of the breezy ninth Dixie Hemingway mystery (after 2013's The Cat Sitter's Cradle), the second written by Blaize Clement's son, John, after her death in 2011, the former Sarasota, Fla., sheriff's deputy turned professional pet sitter saves a stranger from his burning car after a major pile-up on the secluded island of Siesta Key. This brave deed makes Dixie not only a good Samaritan but also puts her front and center for a chain of sinister events, starting with the disappearance of Siesta Key's elderly bookseller, Mr. Hoskins. Of course, Dixie was the last person to see him—and his cat, Cosmo—alive, and she's determined to find Mr. Hoskins before it's too late. Complicating matters is the man she pulled from the car, who's convinced Dixie is his wife, along with a strange summons from the island's resident crazy cat lady, the reclusive Mrs. Silverthorn. Dixie is a feisty heroine who's as dedicated to animals as she is to crime solving, and it's a comfort to know that Blaize Clement's series will continue courtesy of her talented son. Agent: Al Zuckerman, Writers House.
