Through poetry, essays, and a short story, the contributing writers of Illuminations share their struggles, fears, and doubts and relay their underlying faith and hope they have in their walk with God. Compiled by LaTonja Brown, this anthology contains works by members of the Pentecostal Covenant Church in Seattle, Washington, with the youngest writer being ten years old. The works tone, mood, and emotion move up and down between despair and hope, failure and triumph, and doubt and faith. The writings address a plethora of subjects including death, struggle, illness, broken relationships, identity, abuse, loss, hope, and healing. Though the selections often address serious and heartfelt topics, the writings communicate that through it all, there is a beacon of light. It demonstrates the resiliency of the human spirit and shows that despite the odds, we hold on to our hope and faith that all things work for our good.
