On a special field trip in the magic school bus, Ms. Frizzle's class goes into outer space and visits each planet in the solar system.

The classroom is decorated as Dinosaur Land, but Ms. Frizzle - inspired by an archeological dig - craves a more authentic experience. The Magic School bus turns into a time machine and transports the class back millions of years to an adventure where they learn about dinosaurs, their habitats and diets, and even a Maiasaura nesting ground.

When Arnold, one of Ms. Frizzle's students, finds a small foxlike animal with huge ears in the lost and found, he and the rest of the class join in the search for the animal's habitat. They visit six different habitats: the Arctic, the North American temperate forest, the African grasslands, the Amazon rain forest, wetlands, and desert.

When Ms. Frizzle and her student Arnold follow an underground passage beneath Craig's Castle Shop and find themselves in the middle of a siege of a 12th century English castle, they learn a great deal about both castles and the Middle Ages.

Ms. Frizzle takes her kids on a whirlwind tour, from the Arctic to the equator so they can see telltale signs of climate change.
