The island of Crestwood's largest volcano erupts and sends Cinder, Groth, and Roke to the palace to stay with Ruskin until it is safe to return, but after the spectacular explosions are finished danger continues to follow the dragons.

Cinder has always been a little envious of Ruskin, the legendary scarlet dragon, after all it can be hard to be friends with a legend, but when the Witch-Dragon, Villinelle, casts a Soul Blazer spell on Cinder her envy blossoms into an uncontrollable wildfire, and Ruskin must save his friend from Villinelle's curse.
