England's "vampire craze" is causing much vexation for Ian Ashton, the Lord Vampire of London.

The whole of the haute ton is reading sensational books. Between Dr. John Polidori's "The Vampyre" and Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, every duke, duchess, and earl is obsessed with killers in our midst. I'm the Lord Vampire of London, and everywhere I go, I'm treated with suspicion, as if people are doomed by my touch. To quell gossip, I'm now stuck attending tedious balls, lingering in front of mirrors, and eating an obscene amount of garlic. If that weren't annoying enough, my neighbor, Angelica Winthrop, has literary aspirations and has been sneaking into my house at night to snoop.
